I killed a mature pronghorn this year and when I went to move the unexpectedly heavy rascal I started pulling hair out of his back. I hope his cape will be ok. Most of the long hair that was coming out was on his back. You could pull it out like green grass from the ground. Anybody ever dealt with this? nidea

You have to be gentle with pronghorn mounts, hair pulls out easy.

Also hollow and soaks up blood real bad. Hope you got that cape chilled real good.

Yup, I saw one running down a fence once just ahead of the truck. It bumped the fence just before it turned in front of us. Hair went flying everywhere.

It's a defensive mechanism. Predators have a harder time holding on to them. Their hair is also hollow allowing for better insulation in low temps.

We saw one running full speed go through a fence leaving a huge cloud of hair in the air. If wanting to mount be careful and try not to drag them.

Dammit, I drug that freakishly heavy mug 300 yards through a muddy field and against a northern cold front that was blowing so hard you had to lean into the wind to walk. When I got to the truck I couldn't breath or talk and almost threw up. That cold wind in the lungs, pulling a 150 pound pronghorn through the mud 300 yards by yourself aint no joke. I watched a Marty Stoufford documentary on pronghorns and he said they had special blood cells that allowed the pronghorn to not get winded and able them to run clear out of sight. I shot that one running and Im glad I made the kill because he would of been gone baby gone. Those suckers can get down. A jack rabbit is just the opposite they make a run and their muscles lock up. A good rabbit dog can run one down when this happens and make the kill himself or herself. Thanks for the info. bolt
