So being a lab guy im not new to FF and have always waited till the teething stops, between 7-10mo. I was talking to another drathaar owner and he basically said i was a moron waiting to FF my drathaar another month or so. What is the THF's opinion. He said i should of started at 10 wks when i got her.

you can work on a very non-formal hold and other things at 10 weeks, but definitely NOT FF. You should be having fun with with your pup, not introducing to pressure. I actually didnt FF mine til she was a year old, but most trainers do it after the pups have finished teething. didnt bother my pup waiting.

Yeah about 7 to 10 months. I think most versatile dog owners will wait until after their first season of hunting.
Do you plan to test in VJP, HZP? The time table for those should give you a guide on whete to be.

You know i wanted to do the vjp and hzp, but the more drathaar owners i meet the less being part of all that im getting. I dont know many and the ones ive conversed with here on the forum have been nice and lots of help. The others ive run across seem like pretentious tools. Maybe i should get out more though.

I don't want my pointing dogs to retrieve until they are broke.

Hahaha yeah there are some of them around. I've met some cool ones too.
I wouldn't let the tools get in the way of testing though . It gives you a good guideline and time table for your pup. Even if you don't test you can use it as a reference.

They need to not be teething and mature enough to handle the process. Other than that there is no specific age or timeline.
