Deuce broke his toe nail while in South Dakota two weeks ago. We were hunting in snow and I kept seeing blood. The spots were the size of his paw. When I looked at it, the nail was broken about 1/8" from the foot and turned 90 degrees to the side. it bled a lot until the toenail broke all the way off. It never seemed to bother him. Now it is two weeks later and if he runs at all, it bleeds really bad. I have had to wash off the porch and mop the floor already today.

I know time will heal it, but is there anything I can do to help. I have been resting him, but he never walks. It is always a run.

I had a dog break a nail once. Vet clipped it below the break --- extremely painful and bloody --- and put some cauterizing powder on it and wrapped it for as long as the dog would leave the wrap alone. Not a pleasant experience

My older lab broke hers a couple weeks back. I just tried to get her to take it as easy as I could and she was fine in a few days.

I wouldn't study about it.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I had this happen to a client dog this summer. There was no way he was going to sit still to a close clipping. I took him to the vet and had him knocked out. A few days rest and he was back on all 4.

My Vizsla was playing with my Golden a few months back and landed on the Goldens paw. It ripped the entire nail off and was a big mess! Vet cleaned the area very well and wrapped it. Was a long few weeks, but it actually healed up alright.

dab some EMT gel on it, wrap it loosely with a non stick pad and maybe a little of the elastic athletic tape to secure and put a boot the foot. take it off each night.

This is what I do. Have done it twice.
