I am looking at buying a small tract of land, say 20 to 30 acres.Here's what I'm looking to do. I want a place to go set up and shoot 1 whitetail buck. He doesn't have to be a trophy or monster buck. Just a typical 8 or so with lets say 110's or so rack. Any chance of an exotic would of course be a plus. I have a lease near my home so I won't be depending on this land I buy to "Fill the freezer". Just an opportunity to take a decent buck or exotic as well as a place to possibly put up a small cabin as a hub for hill country trips in the summer to float the river and not have to pay someone $150 a day for a cabin rental. One place I found is between Rocksprings and Carta valley! From those of you who may know this area, is this area a place that would meet my expectation?

You will quickly be disappointed with 20-30 acres in that area: it is so dry you just need a larger footprint. Also, think of how many OTHER people around you bought 20-30 acres with the exact same thing in mind as you--or maybe they all planned to limit out every year.

In that area, unless you have water on your place you are going to be disappointed with what you get to see on 20 acres.

For what you're wanting, you probably need to look in the higher population density areas of the hill country. Llano, Gillespie, Blanco counties, etc. Prices are way higher there though, so I'm not sure it'd work out.

Maybe too far north for you, but I know of a place that is 36 acres and high density of deer in the area. Brown County, but close to the Colorado. I actually considered purchasing to add to my footprint, but just a bit too far to shuttle the tractor back and forth. The nice thing about the area is while there are some smaller places for sale, most of the area is still larger tracts. I think this place already has metered water and power.
