I've never hunted in East TX, always hunted South Texas, Mexico and a little bit of Hill Country. I have a house in Rayburn Country and spend a lot of time in East Tx now day because of the Bass Tournaments I fish etc.

Was thinking about looking into a place to hunt close but hunting clubs as opposed to leases is something I know very little about. I know most of its Paper Co owned land like Temple/Campbell stuff.

I didnt know if it was something I should look into. I couldnt do the bring every kid on the block and both bro inlaws.

Somebody give me the skinny. I've had some local around RAyburn Country where I live half the time say some of the places have big deer.

Somebody give me the Skinny.

Thanks Billy

Thanks, Billy

I had a couple of leases in E. Texas many years ago and swore I would never hunt there again. Poaching was a serious problem and you literally had to chain feeders to trees to try to keep the thieves from stealing them. I am NOT saying that all of E. Texas is that way, I'm just relating a personal experience. Deer numbers were very low as well.

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

Pm me with any questions I hunted there for 10yrs, on the old zavalla hunting club which was 63 & angelina river. Knew lots of locals that hunted other clubs in the area.

I currently have three tracts leased from Campbell- got my first one eight years ago. Only had problems with theft one time when a pipeline was being put thru. It is nothing like hunting south Texas, Mexico, or the hill country. You will probably see fewer deer because of the thicker vegetation, and yes I know south Texas and Mexico can have thick brush but there are generally senderos cut thru them. But leasing from Campbell is inexpensive compared to leasing private property and less likely to lose it because someone came along and offered more money.
