I have been on a lease in Sonora area for 25 years and don’t plan on leaving any time soon. However, I spend a lot of time in Erath county with the family and want to look into the possibility of having a small lease to hunt on the weekend/Holidays that we spend there so that I don’t always have to leave the family for days in order to hunt. The questions I have are can I find 250-500 acres fairly easily or am I wasting my time, and if so how much should I expect to pay? If not what can I expect to find (if anything)? I know the closer to DFW, the harder this gets and the more it costs. I appreciate the feeback.
Disclaimer: this is an idea for next year at the earliest, not currently pursuing this for 2018.

I was on a lease that was 15 miles West of Stephenville. We had it for over ten years, and it was 330 acres. There were mainly deer and turkey. If some time and effort was put in, deer were available to be harvested. We saw many more doe than bucks, and most of the bucks were culls. The antler restrictions really started to improve the herd. My impression is that if you can find a lease, in you budget, this is worth considering. If you are a trophy type hunter, who wants to shoot and see big deer, I would pass. This area is hunted hard, as it is close to the metro.

That's a tough one. Not many leases around here.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

Not many leases but if you put in time and effort you'll probably find a small place (less than 100 acrs) but my experience shows cost is pretty high such as $20+ per acre. A 40 acre honey hole gem would be ideal
