I have a 200 plus acre farm/ranch along the San Bernard River in Wharton County, near 1-59 (about a 45 minute drive southwest of Houston, 2.5 hour drive southeast of Austin, 20 minutes from Eagle Lake, 30 min from Sealy) and I may be interested in leasing my property for hunting and recreation. Two pastures totaling 50 acres and about 17 easily accessible acres of wooded lands (along a mile of the river) border sides of 100 acres or so of rice/cotton farming rotation. Good tree and fence lines and gravel roads run the length and across the property. I have hogs, some doves, some wood-ducks, and a two acre bass/catfish/perch-stocked lake on one pasture, and a one acre pond that I plan to stock with catfish soon. I'm told the creek bottoms, hardwoods and plentiful water are good for doves. We see the occasional geese fly over the rice field that may turn to decoys and we have a few deer but I will not be leasing for deer hunting. (We had good teal hunting when we flooded the bottom rice field but I'm not able to offer that right now).
Connected to the main tract is an additional 18 acres of large cypress woods that includes a 9 acre isolated island accessed only by flatboat. My property may be ideal for small group of friends that wants to get out of the city and enjoy nature while hunting or shooting. (I might also consider allowing/adding improvements such as a mobile camp site, well for water, shooting stands, etc since we have electricity assess-- if long term interest expressed) Let me know and make an offer and I'll consider a very responsible, 1-4 member group to lease and share this working farm.

Well I'll have to do some research...but if anyone wants a shot at it (pardon the pun) please PM as I won't bother otherwise! My son likes to hunt the doves and wood ducks anyway--

How old your son and who hunts with him and how often? Sounds like a nice place.

If you lease it, does your son still retain hunting rights/access also?

Thanks..its a nice place. I have leased to hunters in the past and we have had different arrangements regarding the occasional hunt for a family member--it would just depend. We have leased it exclusive as well as retaining the occastional hunt for family. Really depends on the $ and isize of group. Of course we had twice the land back then on this location. Again, if someone is seriously interested just PM. ( For a few years, we leased to a father/son who just wanted a weekend place year round to hunt, shoot, enjoy the woods. But son left for college! ). Thanks for the responses and questions..
