Last week I did a hog hunt with Arrowhead Outfitters near Cameron TX and had a great hunt. Of the 5 ranches I have hunted over the past few years, this was by far the best hunt I have been on. Hog numbers were considerably higher than I have seen on any of the other ranches I’ve hunted and we came across some really good sized pigs. It’s a great hunt for filling the freezer as you can shoot as many hogs as you would like at no additional cost. I mainly hunted with bow but did hunt a little bit with my rifle and had a lot of success with both. The ranch was huge with about 50 different feeder/blind setups. The lodge was very nice and the meals they made were outstanding. Howard and Deb run a great operation and my guide Steve was great at putting me on hogs. How long did you stay? Did you see and have opportunities on hogs every day?

They are nice folks. I took my wife, nephews, and a friend for an afternoon and a morning hunt last week. Everyone saw pigs on each outing.

We did not see many deer, but there are pigs there for sure. Most appeared to be 75 - 100 pounds on the top end, with one taken running 125 - 150.

So, they all are nice eating size.

The habitat is typical cross timbers with fallow fields and pastures surrounded by woodlands with intermittent creeks and draws.

What was nice, at least our group liked it, was that everyone took pigs from driving around and then getting out and walking rather than sitting in blinds at feeders.

My 9 year old nephew put a 500 yard stalk on some and snuck within 25 yards for his first shot ever at a game animal, followed by a shot right through the heart.

It truly a fantastic experience for him.

I did not look inside of a blind, so cannot comment on those.

The accommodations are a clean and comfortable mobile home with rooms built on. It's not luxury, and not rustic - right in between. The accommodations are good and comfortable for women and kids.

The food is good, basic American food, hamburgers and hamburger tacos for lunch and dinner, and pancakes, eggs, and sausage for breakfast before going out.

The kids were gobbling up the pancakes which were a big hit.

The outfitter and his wife are from Alaska, so it made for some interesting discussion and stories in the evening.

As they are from Alaska, don't be surprised by the walrus euro mount on the wall rather than a deer.

Overall, it was a very relaxed, and comfortable environment, with nice hunting.

I went caribou hunting with them this past year (fly-in diy hunt). I would certainly recommend them as we'll.

What were the rates?

$250/day per hunter for pig hunting, lodging not included.

$100/day for lodging and meals. It is about 10 miles, or 30 minutes outside of Cameron. So, one could stay in town, but it probably is about a break even deal, and saving the drive in the early morning is nice.
