I got a hand me down feeder I'm fixing. It has the big Moultrie spinner that holds two 6 volt batteries. It has 2 sets of alligator clips, I connected first battery and it powered up with 23%, connected 2nd battery and it went to 100% so I know they are connected internally. My question is should I hook a 6v or 12v solar panel to it? Thanks!

You need to know how the batteries are connected together. It "sounds" like they are in parallel, so that one is backing up the other. If the feeder is 12V, then it shouldn't have registered at all with only one 6V battery connected. There should be some way to get the model number from the controller, then check on Moultrie's website for an instruction sheet.

However, I don't know how a 6V charger would work if connected to two batteries at one time, in parallel...

As weak as a solar panel is I'm thinking it's not going to hurt anything to go with a 12v but I just don't know. Same time I don't know that a 6v would trickle charge 2 batteries sufficiently. I'm at work and my wife is at Academy so I can't look at the spinner right now to get the model number. May just have to send her home if no one knows and do more research lol

You need to know if it is 12V or 6V before you can do anything. It does matter, a 6 volt solar panel will not charge a 12 volt battery. You should be able to look up the make/model of the timer and see what voltage it runs on. If they have alligator clips for 2 batteries if could be either 6 or 12 volts. However your statement about it showing 23% when the first battery was connected makes me think it is probably 6 volt.

If you can hook up one 6 volt battery and the timer works then it is running on 6 volts. Be sure to get a rechargeable battery before hooking up a solar panel.
