I'm needing to get two new feeders and I don't want to spend a fortune and I found these. I've been looking for a feeder with either a winch or a ladder to make it easier to load. I was looking at the Heterz easy load is anyone using one? If so what do you think about it? Would you buy it again? http://www.cabelas.com/product/Herters-r...mp;gclsrc=aw.ds

Had a lease member that had one. They work fine but are not very sturdy. Would definitely put hog panels around it if you have hogs or cows.

Somehow I missed this, like pitchfork said if not inside a feed pen you better stake it down real good...

I'm going to suggest you get a Winch feeder and maybe something like you showed. I know you will be much happier with a winch feeder but a "good" one will cost more.Just make sure if you do get a winch feeder it is equipped with a brake winch, don't try to save a few bucks by using a boat winch. Hope this helps.

Thank you guys I decided to build my own and do the winch up I'm probaly going to use the boss buck header and I'm looking at their wench but I'm waiting to find out if it has a brake or not. If it has a brake does it need to have legs and a belly band or can I just suspend it a little bit? Sorry for all the questions this is the first time I've messed with feeders.

I'm assuming you are going to use or reuse a 55 gallon barrel. Since I have built quite a few of these I am offering the following comments. You will need a hanging bracket that attaches to your barrel. I recommend the Dutton-Lainson brake winch (800 Pound minimum, stay away from the harbor freight versions, you can get through different sources. Depending on how you plan to do your cable and how high you plan on making your frame use 3/16" wire rope with a hook of course, two inch diameter swivel pulley that is designed for e/16" wire rope, on top. While I prefer square tubing pipe will be just fine. A belly band or legs help greatly when filling the barrel. Hope this helps, you will not be sorry that you got away from ladders. If I can help feel free to contact me. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200331203_200331203Burns

Thank you guys I got it all out together and in place today, it went together a lot easier than I thought it would and turned out good for my first feeder if I say so myself (Can't figure out why but the photo turns when i upload it even with me rotating the picture in my settings)

If that's a pic from a phone you have to figure out which way is up on your phone.
I can't see any t-posts in the pic, you better have it tied down some how...

I tired rotating it before uploading kept going side ways for some reason. It doesn't have feet right now it's the only part I didn't pre mock up and I bought moultrie feet and found out they are too small for the pipe. So next time at the lease I'll put some on its 2.5 hours away and didn't want to bring it back home

I would put a leg kit on it also, if something happens it will protect the feeder housing. This one is no drill..
