I’m looking for a 20’ or 40’ HC — not picky because I don’t need 40’ but it wouldn’t hurt if price was right. I’d like something that would be freight condition still at worst (ie not at the end of its life). Any suggestions on best place to find one in DFW or Paris? What about shipping companies? The gate to the lease is pretty tight so a tilt bed truck wouldn’t work. Instead, I see the need for a forklift likely, especially with it going down on grass rather than rock or pavement.
Open for thoughts/suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I just went through this & bought mine from a local guy south of Dallas.. Bought a 40' HC and after looking at several and talking to a lot of guys, I wouldn't get a 20' unless I absolutely couldn't get a 40' on site.. The price difference is a matter of a few hundred because the demand for 20' is higher with construction companies & the like using them for on-site equip storage and because they can transport them much easier from site to site (one forklift can load/unload from a gooseneck).. Plus 20' are less common so I went w/ the 40' HC and it was absolutely the right call.. Paid about $3k for it and it's in very good condition (2007 model, no rust & the door open very easily)..
Delivery guy brought it on a tilt/walking axle trailer & backed it right up to the neighbor's fence and dropped it.. Hope this helps..
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

Thanks TBone. What is everyone doing regarding insulation? I imagine the box will get over 120 in the summer without insulation, a second roof, ventilation, etc.

Check Craiglist for them. Tons of them down here in South Texas for sale. 20' to 45' starting at $2000 plus delivery. Even a few with delivered price of $2949 on a 40' container in the Victoria area. Once in a while you can find one already with insulation and wiring. I bought one delivered to me and had them add small vents on each end for air flow.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Ditto what T-bone said. From the research I've done, the price between a 20' and 40' were within 100s of dollars and not 1000s. For that difference, the 40' seemed like the logical choice to me. Pricing was all over the map from person to person or company to company. The one trip containers seemed like the best buy to me. I'd be sure and go look at what you are buying vs trusting their opinion over the phone and having them delivered. Some were in pretty rough shape they were calling water tight. Excaliber seems pretty reputable, but they were more expensive when I was looking. https://www.xcalibercontainer.com/Friend turned me on to John Carpenter @ 325-372-7187. Don't remember where he's located, but he seemed like an honest guy and seemed to move a lot of containers. His inventory changed daily.

Instead, I see the need for a forklift likely, especially with it going down on grass rather than rock or pavement. This will significantly raise your cost if a truck/trailer can't get in, as it would be a very large forklift they would need to bring out, in addition to the container. I bought my 20ft. in Saenger (Container King) with side/roof vents, delivered to the Graham area for $2,700. Spray foam will run you about $400-$500 to add. Craigslist and Google will give you plenty to pick from.
