I am thinking about buying a couple of new game cams and wanted to get ideas on what y'all like that is a year or less old. I have several Moultrie 5 megapixel Game Spy cameras that I have had pretty solid success with over the last 4 years. I haven't bought a new one in 2 years and haven't shopped for one either. The market has seemingly doubled or tripled each year so I don't want to spend a bunch of my time researching all the options. I am looking for infared and maybe 8 megapixels. I would like to keep it around $200 or less. Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I just bought 2 refurbished Stealth Cam 8 mp "Unit" game cams from Epic Hunting here on the forum for $100. They arrived the day after he received payment. I haven't used them yet, but you can't beat the price. He posts refurbished cams in the classifieds from time to time.

Check out natchezss or Sportsman's guide for the Primo's line. I'm sold on the Primo's line.....never had to use customer service.

I'm a big fan of the Bushnell Trophy Cams. I've tried several different brands in the past. Finally I bought two Trophy Cams. In fact, I just bought 2 more. So now I have 4. Everybody on my lease loves em.

One of the coolest features is the 30 second videos with audio. It's really cool to watch and hear the deer.

Yep, that was the old ones. The new ones I believe are 5 ,15, 30sec, 1, 5,10, 30 minutes I believe. I have the #46 and #60.

I have been running three Moultrie M-80 cameras since December. I put lithium batteries in the cameras and they are still at 95% battery life and have not had one problem with them. They take excellent day and night photos. I picked mine up on eBay for $124 each and free shipping.

I have one Bushnell Trophy cam-takes great day pics and very dark night pics. I need to send it in. Battery hasn't died since November though!!!

Bought 2 stealth cam delta 8 from Epichunter and they work amazing so far. Ive only had them out for a week though. Great price too!

I have had many moultrie d-40's and d-50"s and they are still working, kind of, after 3 years. Flash scares deer though and battery life is terrible.

I have 2 Moultrie L-50's and compared to the other moultries they are the same except the battery life is a little better.

Which ever you decided I would suggest an external battery. I have all my cams (Remington cam, Wildgame cam) running on a 6v battery block, longest I've let them sit out for is 5 weeks, cant remember exactly how many pictures but there was a lot. And the batteries still have some juice left in them.

I've found that if I just use straight regular batteries, I might get 2-3 weeks....maybe...

Lithium batteries or rechargeable batteries. For our $50 you can pick up a charger and several batteries to trade out. An external battery source is also a great idea.

You have to remember you're throwing a (at least) $100 electronic equipment out in the sun, rain and cold weather. These cameras won't last a lifetime. But if you can get a few years and several thousand pictures out of it, then it's a good deal IMO. Just depends on how much you count on the cameras.

Trenton, I have primarily used both Moultrie and Wildgame Innovations mostly in the $75-$100 range and they have been ok for price, though as has been often documented on here, the Moultries seem to have their display board fade out after a year or two. Sun problem is what I have been told. The older moultries sucked on "C" cell and "D" cell battery life, especially in the cold weather. The Wildgame Innovations have been a little better on the "C" cell battery life. To be quite honest, on a whim I purchased a Tasco 5MP IR from the Graham Walmart and have been pleasantly surprised with the quality of pictures and longevity of battery life. I like that it runs on 4 AAs and they seem to last multiple months worth of pictures. It is also compact very similar to the Bushnell Trophy cam but at only $80 which is dissimilar to the Bushnell Trophy cam. The only con I have so far is that the nighttime IR range is probably only 25-30 ft. whereas I've heard the Bushnell is 40+ ft. Other than that, it's been a very reliable camera for the cost.

I've used many game cameras over the years. From Moultrie, Bushnell, Stealth to Premos.
I’ve had both good and bad cameras with all of these manufactures.
If I had to pick my best camera for quality and performance it would be the Moultrie M80. I've had this camera for about a year and I'm still on the first set of Energizer Lithium batteries. This camera has taken 1000's of pictures both day and night. I'm impressed with both day and night picture quality.

We run two Primos TruthCam 35's and the older one will last for 12,000+ pics and the newer model has gone over 30,000. I can usually get min. 2-3 months out of a good set of D cells.

Primos Truthcam 35 or 46. I have both and have had real good luck with each. The 46 is a better camera and has a clearer resolution, but both work great. I bought some older TC 46 at Wallyword last spring for $69 each new. They were normally $120 or more each. I think they were discontinuing the D cell cameras and moving to the AA cell cameras. Either way I got a great deal.

There are some good reviews at chasingame.com.

I have 4 cameras, Wildgame Innovations, ScoutGuard, Primos, & Reconyx. Of the 4, the most expensive (Reconyx) has the best battery life by far and its trigger time is insanely fast.

That said, all except the Reconyx were well under $200.

The biggest difference I have seen is the number of images captured and battery life. The quality varies, but I'm not framing any of them. I just want to know what was there & when.

When I got my lease, there was a 5 year old Stealth Cam naied to a tree. It's batteries had corroded and it was full of ants. I cleaned it up and used it another season before it died.

I tend to prefer the smaller cameras that use AA batteries. But that is just me. They seem to have better battery life than the ones using C or D batteries. I can't explain why, I just go on replacement frequency.

Good luck on your choice & Happy Hunting.

I've had good luck with the Primos TC46. I used two last year and was pleased. Battery life was really good. They have been out 12 months and are just now on the third set of batteries. I check them about every 4-6 weeks and have always found them snapping photos. The Primos 20/20 camera mounts are great. I highly recommend them as a $20 add on. They are universal so will fit whatever camera you buy.
