Has anyone had a custom reloading die made? If so who made it? I have been reading about Neil Jones dies but I was wondering if maybe someone has some other suggestions.

I have a whidden sizing die that was made from fired brass. I have zero complaints of it.

My guess would be any old time machinist could make a custom die, but my second guess is that it would be very expensive.

To do it correctly, in my opinion, you'd need a separate reamer. The hardening it the part I've not quite figured out an easy way to do. I've got a couple Whidden dies that were "picked" from fired cases. They machine them then harden them but they all don't come back from hardening the same size...so they fit one to your brass. Works well if you're doing a ton of them. Harrells Precision does the exact same thing...their dies are good too. Jones makes good dies from everything I've heard...but they are expensive.

I have looked at Whidden but I have also read some negative stuff about them. Any one heard of Jim Carstenson? I just found his name doing some more research on the topic.
