Can someone educate me on ladder tests? Preferred distance for the test? 0.2 or 0.3 increments preference? Is a chrono a must have? Time between shots? Or just burn through them? Any other helpful tips or tricks?

.2 gr for a .223 case.
.3 gr for a case in the .308 Win family if bolt size.
.4 gr for a long action.
300 yards can work, 500 yards is better.
Shoot 3, go to the target and mark powder charge next to bullet holes, take a photo. Go back and shoot the next three.
Repeat.
Chrono as you go is good, but not absolutely necessary. Now that I have access to a LabRadar, I shoot, write down speed, top load the next, repeat.
There can come a point where, on the top end, you add powder, but do not gain velocity, there's your max. And when 3 group together, they often are not far apart in velocity, top end, low end, or middle.
