GA Precision Crusader 6.5 Creedmoor finally arrived. Ready to work up loads for a ladder test, just noticed the OAL is so long and base to ogive measurements with the 140 Hybrids, 142 Sierra MK and 143 ELD-X measurements are as follows,,, 2.271" for the Hybrid, 2.305" for the 142 SMK, and 2.271" for the ELD-X. I would like to try the 140 Hybrids for now, and I have a few questions about the OAL. Are you guys running the OAL that long? I see that the taper of the bullet is 80 % inside the neck with the ogive kissing the lands and not sure how much I should seat off the lands. I do prefer that the whole shank of the bullet is seated inside 100% of the neck or more. Does it like a long jump? Going to use H4350. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

.030" jump on a 6.5 Creedmoor is where I start (and leave it). And they almost always fit in the mag right there. If they don't fit in the mag, shorten until they do. Powder charge is way more important, and the cartridge, and all those bullets are forgiving on the jump.

Done. If it was a SAMMI spec chamber, would the OAL be shorter or is it actually SAMMI length?

Honestly, I haven't loaded for a CM that didn't shoot really well at SAMMI spec length. 2.800". None of the bullets you mentioned mind a jump.

I never care about SAAMI spec. I'm a handloader, so SAAMI doesn't apply to me. I seat bullets in relation to the chamber of the rifle I am loading for, never consulting SAAMI spec. So I really don't have that answer you're looking for. And, there's the scenario I've run into on several 6.5 Creedmoor chambers. They just have lots of free-bore, and you can't touch rifling and still fit in the mag. I ordered a "Match reamer" for my gunsmith, hoping for less free-bore, it was less, but still significant enough I went straight to a .030" jump, and tested powder charges. Rifle shoots 1/4 MOA, so I figured why mess with it.

I was just concerned when I measured the length that could fit in the mag compared to the length to the lands, its why I asked. I already loaded up for a ladder test for the 140 Hybrids and set back .030" off the lands, I'll see how they do at 300. Thanks
