Anyone have experience with LRX performance at close range, like 3000fps or greater?

It's a copper projectile. What do you think is going to happen?

I killed an Eland with the 160 TSX out of a 7mm RUM (MV 3300 fps). The finisher was at under 10 yards and did what you'd expect it to do. Use on Nilgai with satisfaction.

It's a copper projectile. What do you think is going to happen? Possibly shed the petals, or mushroom perfectly. I only have experience with 62 and 70gr tsx .223 my wife uses to shoot does and all have been pass-throughs. Whats your guess or experience? Just posted this after your reply, thanks for the info. Ever use the LRX?

The TSX and TTSX shot so well in my rifle that I never bothered to investigate further. Bear in mind that copper projectiles are a trade off. You get better penetration but usually less expansion. Occasionally expansion can be unpredictable, so the rule of thumb is to aim at bone. On the trip on which I shot the eland, I had modest expansion on two animals that lead to a fair amount of follow up even though shot placement was satisfactory. On the other hand, I had exceptional expansion at very long range when I wouldn't have expected it, and twice the exceptional penetration helped improve mediocre shot placement, including on the eland above. There's no doubt that copper is great on large animals, particularly when shooting center of mass, but I do think that you need to really pay attention when shooting smaller game, like deer. Others make disagree, and who is to say who is right and who is wrong. These are only my personal experiences.

Ok thanks again. I'm thinking the LRX will be a good balance with more expansion, but not fragment particularlyit on deer.

Have always preferred partitioned or bonded bullets over mono metal.
I think they give a better combination of expansion, penetration, and retention.
