Looking for some opinions on bullet weights for a 30-06.
Some background, I just purchased a used Remington 700 CDL left hand in 30-06 and am in the process of setting up the rifle. In the past (on my son's Remington 700 ADL in 30-06) I was happy with the Hornady Interbond 150 gr ammo. Great groups and good on game. In my TCProHunter I am currently using the Hornady SuperPerformance 150gr SST ammo. Fine on game but the groups are erratic....but it may be the TCProHunter barrel not the ammo...jury has not voted yet.
I have been doing some reading and it looks like a popular load is the 165gr or 168gr bullets. I know that I need to make my selection based on what the rifle "likes," but I was curious what some of you heavy shooters like once you get past 200 yards. It looks like the heavier bullets seem to be popular once you start trying to stretch the gun out.
So any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks

When I lived up in KY and deer hunted, my old Savage 110 30-06 really liked 165gr Nosler Ballistic tips. I loaded my own but it really shot well with the other 165gr ammo I loaded also.

I like the 165s in a 30-06 and 308. Usually use the 165 Accubonds.
On Superformance ammo I have tried it in a few rifles and those that like it do pretty well, those that didn't hated it. We are talking for one rifle that shot the lite magnum into usually half inch groups or sometimes up to 5/8 shooting groups or patterns about 3 MOA or larger. Talked to Hornady about it and they said some guns really do not like the Superformance ammo.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

In my mind, the .30-06 and the 180 gr bullet are a match made in heaven.

I'm really liking the results of the Hornady 178gr ELD-X its brought an old Browning BAR into the almost sub 1 MOA realm.

165-180s seem to work on most 30 cals. I have had some shoot 150s better or 180s better, almost all of them shot 165-168s well.

In my mind, the .30-06 and the 180 gr bullet are a match made in heaven. Second this statement. If I could have only one it would be my xtr featherweight with 180 gr bullets, it has proven itself over and over again over the decades.

My T3 '06 loves the 165 grain SGK's I handload. Most accurate .30-06 I've ever owned, and I've had a few. My dad's Remington 700 .30-06 20" (circa 1964) really likes 180 grain bullets, doesn't seem to matter what manufacturer. Conversely, my youngest daughter's 700 '06 22" seems to prefer ONE particular hand load topped with 150 grain Sierra ProHunter bullets. Go figure.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

In my mind, the .30-06 and the 180 gr bullet are a match made in heaven. Absolutely! 180gr SGK over your favorite 4350 and you will need to find a spot for another freezer...
A thousand reasoned opinions never equal to one case of diving in and finding out.

I've had good results over the years with various 180 gr but recently started using 168 gr which my 30-06 shoots better groups with.

Thanks for all the input. I think I will buy a box of 168 and 180's and see how they print. Thinking of starting out with the AccuBond but may also try a box of the Hornady ELD-X.
