Been reloading for awhile. About to start 38/357. This is new load for me. Mainly been loading 45&9mm. Any pet loads with the following powders??
Traiboss
Power pistol
Titegroup
Hp38
Solo 1000
That's all I have available at the moment. Looking for easy shooting target load in 38..hard hitting in 357. Bullet is 158grn lrn. Gun is s&w 586 4 inch stainless.
Thanks
Doc

Never used any of those powders. I have used W231 with good success for 38 and light 357. It is smokey and kinda dirty though. Used Blue Dot and don't recommend it for 357 anymore. They changed the formula and I started having pressure problems. My favorite is 300MP for full power 357.

Years ago I was introduced to the Clays family of powders for shotgun. VERY clean stuff. The containers had load data right on them.

Don't load shotgun anymore but I still use Clays, Universal Clays or International Clays for my pistol loads. Except of course in the BP handguns roflmao

The answer is FLINTLOCK! Now, what was the question?

Just saw that your bullet is LRN. Not going to get a hard hitting 357 with lead unless you use a gas checked bullet. You can't push lead that fast without having leading problems.

You can go to 1200 with lead just fine. I use titegroup for 38 and h110 for 357. Look up data at www.hodgdon.com

W296 and H-110 are your brews for full house loads in a 357

From everything I've seen, it's the same powder, just with a different sticker.

H110/W296 or 2400 in a healthy dose does about 1300 FPS from an unchecked 158 LRN all day if you do it right.

My pet load for 158-162 grain LRN or SWC unchecked in a 6.5" Ruger Blackhawk is 14.1 grains 2400 and a CCI small pistol primer loaded to 1.585-1.590" OAL depending on the bullet in a .357 case.

I have a couple hundred store bought 158 grain .358" LRNs if you need them.

Unique and Bullseye are a little fast for my taste in a large straight wall pistol case. A .357 case is less than half full using either.

Pass the gravy.

HP38 is W231, if that's any help.
