Sounds like a nice rifle. My guess is that you'll do best with powders that burn at the faster end of the rate chart, and I'd avoid round nosed bullets to prevent feeding issues. Also, don't be surprised if you lose 200-250 fps in velocity compared to the charts because of the 20" barrel and the energy the gas system bleeds off. Not that it matters, I think your rifle will be completely lethal on hogs and deer and that you'll be very happy with your decision.

What sight are you going to use?

In a ar platform the lighter stuff will likely serve you well.

Have shot with that caliber, but all have been in boltactions. When Varget came out I switched to it from IMR4350. Mostly have used 140 gr bullets in 32 years with the a Remington 788 in 7-08 and for hunting haven't seen any need to change.

I may be wrong but bet Varget, CFE223 or IMR4064 would be a good choice from your Remington with 140 gr bullets.

This came with 120 rounds of 120gr NBT loaded with 43.5grs Varget. Also had 8 new boxes of 120gr NBT bullets. Guess I will be loading the 120gr bullets for A while. I am going to just play with loads after the 120 are gone. Have 8 lbs oh H380 I may play with.
I have A Model 7 Remington I load 140gr NBT with 47grs H414.

Thanks for your reply's

Those 120gr bullets shoot good from my 7-30 Waters Contender barrels and do a good job on deer when started at 2450 and 2700fps. To be honest I tried some Hornady lite mags and the gun loved them so I bought 10 boxes in the late 90s since they shot as good as my reloads, just about out of them now so back to reloading for it.

Good luck with the new rifle and have fun with it. Sounds like a good gun to get into groups of hogs with.

FYI...that Nosler 120gr 284 BTip uses the same copper jacket as the 140gr'er and trims the thinner upper end of the case off, to satisfy the Silhouette Handgun folks who complained that the original 120's were too soft to knock over the steel targets at longer ranges, who were the predominent consumer at the time...according to what I've heard for a very long time...and the reason for better game penetration than could otherwise be expected in that weight bullet.
