Picked up the hornady comparator setup so I cant test my lands.
On my 6.5x55 lands are located at 2.580. So where shpuld I start testing loads to back off lands?

I start 10-15 though off the lands and once I find the powder charge weight...I play with seating to tune it in.

I start .02" off unless that's too long to mag feed then load to mag length for a starting point.

Somewhere long ago someone suggested starting at one tenth of a caliber off the lands. I have found that to be good advice. I usually end up in that neighborhood.

id start at .05, shot a gun yesterday that liked a huge jump .12 off the lands a 22-250 shooting 69 gr

Same here unless using Berger VLD then kissing the lands. However agree with Dee, if it does not feed through the mag will shorten for reliable feeding
