Well I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a new pistol. The XDm .45 compact 3.8. I was looking to purchase a bulk case of ammo and was wondering hoping for a few suggestions on a reliable brand and grain for target shooting as well as double as a personal protection round. Many thanks in advance.

These are the best balance I have found for both being cheap enough to plink with and maybe good enough for self defense. I know you are looking for a case but if you buy these at Wal Mart you can get them for less than $40 and thats going to be hard to beat for HP rounds even at bulk pricing.

I would strongly encourage you to buy some high end self defense rounds though. In the event you actually have to use them for self defense high quality ammo might mean the difference between life and death.

Glad I'm not the only one that likes those for around the lease and general plinking.

When I CC my 45 it's loaded with Bonded Golden Sabers very good bullets and on par with all the new bullets coming out.

In the tests i did the 230 grain penetrated to much for my comfort, if this is to be used for a carry weapon you might think about going to a 185 JHP to prevent over penetration in a situation where you have to shoot to protect yourself or others.
My 230 grain winchester JHP went through a solid core door at an angel with 7 inches of penetration then went on to go through 2 pieces of 1/2 inch plywood and was laying on the ground, something to consider if this weapon is used to defend your home, you might end up hurting or killing someone in another room, something to think about and maybe do your own tests, good luck, Irish.

If you don't reload your own which I most certainly recommend doing, buy the least expensive you can find. Or you can buy the high dollar hyped up super duper rhino stopper ammo.

Personally all I shoot in 45acp is 200gr cast lead semi-wadcutters.
