Torn between the 180 grain accubonds and the Barnes TTSX 165 grain
I have had bad experiences with the Barnes tsx in the past due to poor expansion but I hear good things about the TTSX
I like the accubonds as well
Game will be mainly elk, mule deer, Nilgai, moose and mountain goat
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Easy choice. 180 Accubonds. If you want a bigger bullet for the moose and Nilgai, the 200 AB would work well. I personally know hunters who have taken multiple Nilgai with a 180 AB in a 300 WM. It will work fine. I'm not a fan of the copper bullets.

Thanks chad.
I myself have seen dozens of deer shot with cooper bullets and All have been less than spectacular

IMO, you have to really speed up the Barnes bullets to make them equal to, or close to a lead bullet. But when you speed them up over about 3000 fps, they begin to copper foul really bad. They are great for one thing- penetration! They transfer less energy into the target, which allows for more penetration. They expand 1.5 times diameter, and keep on going. They do make for for good bullet choice in lower power rounds, like a 223. A 223 with a light weight Barnes, like a 50-55 grain TSX, would be a good choice for a tougher bullet in a lighter round for better performance. The big negative on them is when they slow down, the expansion is minimal. You need to keep impact speeds up above 2200-2400 fps for good expansion. Much slower than that, and you have an expensive FMJ bullet.
I would not feel under gunned with anything in N. America with a 300 WM and 180 AB.

I use the 180 Accubond in my 26 inch barrel 300 Win Mag.
Chad explained it well.

Well a bit late since TT already ordered AB’s, which will work fine as will many bullets from a 300 Win Mag. The TTSX performs differently, far better and more consistently than than TSX. I only used the TSX a few times, but it really was among the worst performing bullets I’ve ever used. In stark contrast, after about 15+ animals, the TTSX has performed very nicely. My sense is it that it is softer and the tip must help as well. The entrance holes on a rib cage are 1/2” - 1” - that is the entrance side, exits are similar. I swore off Barnes after trying the TSX, but someone encouraged me to try the TTSX and I am glad I did. The 308 175 SMK combo still has killed more for me than everything else added together by double or triple, and it still works well for me, but I would not necessarily recommend it for others.) These are on a doe behind the shoulders with a 260 with 100 gr TTSX. I am picking this series on a doe as the smaller body mass with behind the shoulder heart lung shot placement is more challenging for this type bullet than a larger animal with a thicker diameter. These are very typical of the wound holes - not the biggest and not the smallest, but reliably through and through. The only TTSX that did not exit was my nephew shot a 200#+ boar through the shoulders with an 80 gr TTSX from a 243 and it stopped in the off side hide. I will try to take a photo of a 300 Win Mag with 165 TTSX combo this year. Entrance inside rib cag view Exit inside rib cage Exit, exterior

Barnes 180 accubond is a good choice, I prefer 210g Berger bullets out of my 300 WM I’m sure Chad could load you some up or check out HSM AMMO I am a hunting guide for PBGSO and see all kinds of different types of ammo and shots (story’s for days) I cringe when I see Cheap Ammo it usually ends up bringing a dog out or haveing to shoot the animal multiple times.

Gonna test the 180 grain accubonds against a nilgai bull and see how it turns out

More and more people are seeing the light every day. I was probably one of the first people on this forum to openly criticize the TSX and my experiences with it. The TSX fan boy crowd here was very strong back then and you would have thought I slapped each one of thems momma or something the way they reacted to my findings. LOL! Even when presented with photographic proof of perfect shot placement I was still told I didn't know what I was talking about and that it was one of the best bullets on the planet. Since then more and more people have experienced what me and you have stated and the internet is filled with similar stories now also.

He cannot stop bragging on them. 80% of the time I shoot berger’s weather it’s a aoudad at 500+ yards or axis at 100 yards they put the smack down on animals. If I can’t load up bergers I use ELD-X’s they work very well too.

Are y'all using 210's in a light rifle? I used them in my heavy rifle and they were great in a 15# rifle with a brake, but they are a bit on the brisk side recoil wise in a 8# 300 Win Mag without a brake, at least for me.

My bud's is a Tikka T-3 Lite, in a Manners EH-1. It has a Harrel's brake, but the recoil is still peppy. Gotta drive the rifle, for sure. Or it'll drive you.

May be time to add a brake on the light rifle for a variety of reasons. eta - just remembered moose is on TT85’s list, which needs good penetration, so Bergers may not be the ticket for the swamp donkeys.

Adding Moose to the mix I would use a bullet designed because Cup and Core bullets of the day failed to penetrate on a moose that had mud on him. That got John Nosler to thinking about a bullet that would hold together yet expand and penetrate. Out of that bullet "failure" on a moose the Partition was created. Partitions are not the most accurate bullet but they are dependable and a Moose has a pretty large vital zone

That got John Nosler to thinking about a bullet that would hold together yet expand and penetrate. Out of that bullet "failure" on a moose the Partition was created. Partitions are not the most accurate bullet but they are dependable and a Moose has a pretty large vital zone The Partition really was an ingenious idea, and it still is a great bullet. The Partition would work well as a one bullet for everything option. My experience with Partitions is that while they usually may not cut cloverleafs, they are very capable of sub-1 MOA or better in most any rifle. Also, they tend to have best accuracy at maximum power loads, which is a plus for a hunting bullet. Ironically, at least as of a few years ago, the smallest group ever shot at the Nosler factory in their testing was a 300 Win Mag firing a Partition. It was 0.0XX" inch 3 shot group if I remember correctly. I still use Partitions on occasion, and very very occasionally a Ballistic Tip. Accubonds seem to work for most folks, they just never have done anything special for me so I pick a SMK, TTSX, or Partition. fyi - Nosler products can be purchased at nice discounts at the Shooter's Pro Shop online, and Partitions actually are very affordable from SPS. The Blems work fine from the ones I have used and the "blems" are not noticeable to the eye or on paper. The only difference is they come in plastic bags. The "overruns" are top shelf product and come in the regular box. http://www.shootersproshop.com/30 cal 180 Accubond - $19.95/50 at SPS http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-pr...-blem-50ct.htmlvs. $33.49 at Midway. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/101050...-tail-box-of-50Inventory varies by the day depending on what is being run at Nosler and the blems sell out quickly for most types.

Locally I can buy 200 grain Swift A-Frame’s or 220 grain Sako hammerheads
But I’m not planning on hunting bears
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
