would there be any advantage to use a long action receiver chambered for a short action cartridge, namely the 6.5 CM?

Yes, you will never be limited to a mag length if you need to load long.

Unless something weird happens, you'd never need to load a 6.5 CM long enough to challenge a short-action setup. Any bullet heavier than ~145grs will not have an advantage over a lighter weight because you won't be able to push it fast enough out of that case. That's the whole reason for the 6.5 PRC.

There are different models of the .264/6.5 bullet using different longer cases 6.5-06, 6.5-300. Pushing velocities into the mid 3000 FPS range. These are custom/wildcats but with the popularity of the 6.5CM who knows what’s next.

If I was going to build a long action 6.5, it would be a 6.5-06.

Can’t think of an advantage. It’s heavier if that’s what your going for.

would there be any advantage to use a long action receiver chambered for a short action cartridge, namely the 6.5 CM? I've shot out a .260 Rem, shot out a 6.5 Creedmoor, and am on my third 6.5mm barrel. Never once did I wish they were on a long action.

I would say no. As much as I like my Tikka, I don't like the fact it's a long action with a short action cartridge. I don't think it affects anything, I just have a touch of OCD. Also, with the difference in length it seems like you would have to have some type of block and shorter follower in the magazine to compensate for the difference. That's what my Tikka magazine has.
