One of the tennis kids wanted to learn to reload, so I said I'd show him. He brought his rifle, a 300 Wby. It was his late father's rifle. Really pretty rifle, without that California styling. Probably German made. We found him a mid-range load with IMR 7828ssc. For safety sake, I shot the first couple of reloads. Ouch! But it groups great with 180 gr Nosler Accubonds. He says no pig or deer has taken a second step after he plunks em. I can believe that, which reminds me to go see if this shooting damaged my earthen berm. That thing was a cannon.

Anyway, I've added a reloader to our ranks.

up You are doing good for the kids and shooting in general

When I was reloading for the 300WBY and working up loads for it the ouch wasn't really there but it had a break on barrel. Kick was about like the 243.

Well done.

I fear hand loading is something a huge portion of our youth will never learn.

Ive had a lot of stuff take more than a few steps after being hit with a 300 wby. If you shoot monometal bullets and body shots it will happen with frequency.

Way to go man. It seems like it's a dying pastime.

Seems many have the time and money to get started but then fall short before finishing.

Yep, which is why I stick with lead bullets

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Big Stan, I can only estimate the MV, and think that it's near 3000 fps.

My oldest son (11) knows the basics, as he gets older and more mature he'll be a natural.
