I use the comparator set extensively. Great tool!

I always use it. It's like a machinist that uses dial calipers in a machine shop compared to a reloader with his / her Lock & Load OAL gauge and comparator set. It helps you with the perfect measurements on the reloading bench.

I seat ALL my bullets with an ogive tool, and then check for COAL. The ogive, IMO, is the most important part of where to seat the bullet.

Comparator takes precision measurements for determining the relation of the ogive to the lands. If you don't use bullets where seating at/near the lands is a necessity then I think its of little value.
Have a few loads for typical spritzer style bullets that I developed without a comparator. After I got a comparator I seated them to a recommended length and retried and they didn't shoot worth a darn. Set back to old depth and ding ding they were good again.
Not saying they are no good, but there are several bullets that are not picky about seating depth.

I even make most of my cases to use with the tool. I just made a 260 AI case for it today.
