Ok, I have a single shot H&R 22-250. Its the bull barrel Ultra Varmit model...I love the gun, but periodically it breaks open when shooting. Its been advised that maybe the factory ammo that I shoot is a bit too hot for a break over gun.
I would like some opinions on some powder and bullet loads that you guys may have used thats not so hot and easy to shoot, but still has decent power to take down larger varmints, and maybe even a whitetail deer.
Any and all information will be appreciated.
thank you
ps: I have a 7 and 10 year old I would like to enjoy shooting this gun.

Dry the lube off of the locking lug. That will cause it to break open. Worth a try

If the gun breaks open when you fire it my guess is something is wrong. If it isn't as simple a fix as suggested above I would contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say.

It's on both. It's where the action latches when you shut it. It needs to be dry. If that doesn't fix it,it needs professional help. Greybeard outdoors forum has really good advice on those. Lots of knowledge there

It was the latching shelf on the barrel side. I took some metal off there and then shimmed the barrel pivot point. It locks up good now.
Now what loads do yal use for 22-250?
