Well after a very unsuccessful and now injured bow hunting time... I'm back rifle hunting. Been several years, so i bought the rifle and accessories. Now Im down to the ammo. Yes I know that the gun picks the ammo sometimes. I guess what Im asking is what have y'all had luck with. I have a tikka t3 in .270, Im probably going to be using 130 grains unless I hunt something bigger than deer or hogs. I like the Federal Fusion with the Nosler Partition bullets.. Any suggestions?

Hornady superperformance, hornady American whitetail, federal sierra game king are the ones I would try.

Core locked, interlocked, or game king bullets. Premium bullets are a waste of money for most things, including deer and hogs.

Fusions you mentioned would be perfect. They are generally extremely accurate, bonded & priced only slightly higher than the cheapest ammo.

I wouldn't listen to the people who say premium bullets are a waste. With that partition you will never have to resort to a grid pattern to find your deer because there is no blood trail. Partitions don't win any long range matches for accuracy and don't have a super duper BC, but they are more than accurate enough for hunting. On game performance is their focus, and I personally have never had an issue with how they shoot either. Id say you couldn't find a better choice if you gun shoots the 130 grain nosler partitions well.

I've seen Partitions give astounding accuracy. I would never pass them up on that account.

I left out trying a plain Remington or Winchester core lock. The ones I did recommend I have had really good experiences with all especially the American whitetail. They are very accurate rounds in every rifle I've tried them in and knock down whatever they hit in my experience.

A friend once told me picking a load for a Tikka consisted of loading your favorite in the rifle and shooting it. That has also been my experience with Tikka...they will accept a variety of loads well. Good advice already given . Try what you like best!

I'm not saying they don't work; a Partiton is the only bullet I'll use for deer in a .223. My point is, they cost double what a interlocked or corelocked bullet costs, and for deer or hogs, they really don't gain much.

Pick up a couple different boxes and go find out what performs best in your gun

We recently added a t3 270 to our collection, it's the woman's deer rifle. I've only tried two, hornady whitetail and Winchester power max (I think it's the right one, comes in a black box and a bonded bullet). Both were 130gr.

Shot both at the range at 100, 200 and 300 yards and the Winchester just had better results. At any distance I had trouble getting moa 5 shot group with the whitetail. She got a red hind with it about 4 weeks ago. Neck shot at about 125 yards and never moved after the hit.

With such a small sample set and the kill shot so close, probably doesn't give u much info. But I'm going to stick to this Winchester since I still have 19 rounds left, which will probably last us years.

I wasn't aware that Federal Fusion was loaded with anything other than the Fusion bullet. It's their own design and from what I can read, it's not a Partition type but " fused ", hence the name. Regardless, it shoots and performs well in several of my rifles.

You are being nice and you are correct. Fusion ammo uses a Fusion bullet which is just a electroplated bonded bullet like the Gold Dot pistol bullets. Opens really wide and transfers a lot of shock. It's great ammo for the price and usually extremely accurate because the electroplating creates an extremely uniform jacket.
