My wife is getting up in age, (70) and shoots a 30/06. It kicks like a mule but she does not want a new gun as she has shot it on animals 23 times and has 23 kills. But I noticed that the last couple of years her shot placement is about 6 inches off where it has always been before. I think she is beginning to flench in anticipation of the recoil. I was thinking about using the new hornady custom lite ammo. Can anyone tell me anything about it.

Use it in my wife's 7mm-08, really reduces the recoil. She hasn't had a kill yet so I can't vouch for the effectivness.

Go for it, the recoil will be less and still effective at the range most critters are shot.
If you are a reloader it is easy to load a reduced recoil load, if not and like bullets other than Hornady get with ChadTRG42. Chad can make some that will work also.

I have had success with first time hunters using Remington Reduced Recoil loads in .270. The felt recoil is more of the .243. Seen a full pass thru on a shoulder shot with the .270 on a mature STX buck.

Have no experience with the Hornady loads in particular, but have made reduced loads using 110 grain bullets in my 270 for my wife. Within their range limitations they work well and the recoil reduction is very noticeable. I would definitely give them a try.

My son killed his buck with the custom lite 7 mag ammo opening weekend. Originally I bought it just for practicing at the range and planned to re-sight-in with full power ammo before the season started. It shot so well (1" groups) and knowing that he wouldn't have a shot over 200 yds I decided to stay with it. Performed beautifully on this 5.5 yr old, 160 lb buck at 115 yds. The blood you see is from the exit hole. Clean pass thru behind the shoulder. Impact took out the better part of 3 ribs and the lower part of the heart. Buck ran about 20 yds.

I've shot three whitetail does, one wt buck, and a desert bighorn with custom lite ammo, 270 and 7mm-08. Great performance and all dead as dead can get. I got over the whole recoil thing a long time ago, I like soft shooting rifles and keeping things in my sight picture if I can .

I can load you some reduced recoil 30-06 ammo with any bullet you want. Something in the 125 to 150 grain would be ideal. It would reduce the felt recoil about 60%-70%. Send me a PM or look at my website for info: www.dallasreloads.comThanks! Chad
