Was playing around with my 30-06 the other day, trying to find a load that works and found the best accuracy was with 60 grains of IMR 4350 and 59.3 of A4350. Those groups were only about .7 so I think I need to tweak the load a little more. Should I start with the COAL or charge? I really like the velocity numbers of the max load.

Also, this particular rifle hasn't been shot in over a year and still has fouling in it from the last time I shot it for accuracy. Could that be hurting accuracy? I have no problem cleaning the barrel and fouling the barrel again before testing.

You say the best accuracy was with 60 grains of IMR 4350 and 59.3 of A4350. I assume that means you already tested different charge weights. If so, then an adjustment in seating depth is probably the next step. Not sure what your goal is, but if you can consistently shoot 0.7 inch groups, it sounds like you're ready to go hunting, unless you just want to continue tinkering.

If you've already tested various powder charges and landed on those as the clear winners, then that step is done. Adjusting seating depth is the only other variable to play with. Of course while making everything else about the ammo the same. Only change one variable at a time, and I'm sure you already knew that.

I did test different weights, but they were 1/2 grain increments. This gun has been a problem child. The usual standby's like 4064 don't work at all. Would it be worth it to try H4350?

Sometimes .30-06 will like slower powders like one of the 4831s or Re22, but I would expect them to work best with 165s and 180s.

I wouldn't expect H4350 to be much different from IMR4350, but expectations can be fickle. You never really KNOW until you try.

Have you tried a different primer?

Haven't tried another primer yet. I did notice I was shooting Nosler BT's with the Sierra max load so I think I'll try Nosler specific data next. It's over 2 grains less though, which means slower. Basically, I'm trying to duplicate the Superformance speed.
