So I know absolutely 0 about reloading but I am wondering what is a good setup to start out with. I am just thinking it would be a nice hobby to get into. Thanks

It's fun and can be frustrating. It's a great learning experience if you're the type always looking for a new thing to learn and keep as a skill. It's also the most expensive hobby you can pick up under the guise of saving money.

No one saves money reloading. We just shoot alot more!!

X2 on this - I started reloading about 17 years ago and the local gunshop had these Lee kits and would sell them at cost because he knew it would get people into reloading and thus buy his components.

The first time I reloaded with this kit I bought everything I need to load 200rnds of .270win and when I was done loading my first 200rnds; the cost savings on ammo paid for everything I had bought and then some. - And that was when you could buy federal premium ammo for $25.00 a box.

Its better than some hobbies for sure.
It's cheaper than golf.
Easier to learn than golf.
Like golf you still lose the bullets....

Just remember that a cartridge is only four pieces.

1. Brass case, learn what entails proper sizing and trimming.
2. Primer. Use the appropriate primer for the cartridge.
3. Powder. Find the best powder(s) for the cartridge
4. Bullet. Match the bullet to the job of the cartridge.

When testing loads only change one variable at a time. Typically you will not change anything with the brass case. Pick the bullet, pick the seating depth, pick the seating depth, pick the powder and adjust the powder charge to find "the" charge. If you want to tweak more, adjust seating depth keeping every other variable the same. Same goes for any other variable, only one change at a time.

If you think you will keep on reloading and get more calibers. I would bite the bullet and get the Redding Big Boss and VERY GOOD components. I promise, if you start cheap you will only end up spending more later, like most of us did....

I was nervous when I started too. It's really easy to pick up. If you can't figure out how to make safe reliable ammo you shouldn't be loading. You're not going to spend less money but you'll get more for it.

I will say this; there is a big difference between loading strait-casing pistol rounds and necked rifle rounds.

I have two loading stations; a Hornady progressive used almost exclusively for pistol rounds and a RCBS Rockchucker for rifle rounds.

I shoot 9mm like most people shoot 22lr. I might put 1000 rounds of 9mm, 357/38spl/45acp down range on a given weekend. I know I'm saving money by collecting my brass and shopping for components.

OTOH; I'm slow and go with my rifle rounds. I only reload for .223 and .308; but there are extra steps involved and a higher learning curve as far as trimming casings and maximizing velocity and chamber pressures.
