Second and third hand info here but heard people could be loading boat tail bullets backwards to reduce the noise of bullet in flight of silenced subsonic rounds....?

Any truth to this?

I've "heard" of it too. Never loaded 300blk, not sure I would try it.

Is this for SNG? A rifle bullet shot backward would act a lot like an FMJ pistol round if you had to shoot something with it.

Question- what noise does a subsonic bullet make anyway? Second- could you really tell the sound difference between a forward pointing bullet vs. a backwards bullet? Third- why would you need to load it backwards?

Total fallacy, if you ask me.

It's not me saying this is true - just saying I heard - could have been people just talking out of their [censored] - I'm just now getting into 300 BLK - I guess the same reason they decided to boat tail bullets it would be like an extreme boat tail - is it possible to hear the bullet when it is suppressed and fired through a bolt action?

I love a good rumor especially if it's not true.

I doubt it would be any quieter, a bullet flying normally will slip through the air more efficiently than one with a large flat point which a bullet flying backwards would have.

Biggest advantage I know of for shooting a subsonic bullet backwards would be if it is a bullet that would not expand at subsonic velocity the larger flat point would cause more damage to flesh than a pointed one. Much like a flat point "meplate" bullet will rip more going through than ball ammo.

^^Only reason I've ever heard of running bullets backward.
