I just heard today about this round. What exactly is it "green tip"? What is the problem with it? Sorry I've always reloaded mine.

Has a steel core.
They want to squash it because it is "armor piercing".

Actually its main core is lead like any other cup and core bullet. It does have a steel tip though and that's where the problem is.

The US calls them M855 and uses the green tip. Other NATO countries call it SS109 and it may or may not have a green tip. It's the same 62gr lead antimony bullet with steel penetrator though. The ATF action would ban both.

I've got a mass amount of those bullets that I got for a song long ago. I guess I can retire early.

I have heard people looking for them. Other than cheap plinking ammo what is the drive to want them, is it just because someone wants to outlaw them?

More sheeple acting like their shepherd wants them to. I've never had the desire to have them, and still don't.
