Wanting to pick up a compound bow this summer and give bow hunting another chance. I'm not looking at spending $1k for a ready to hunt package as I'm not a big bow hunter I'll never see the difference. Been looking at bear, diamond and Hoyt and wanting to keep it under $500. Any suggestions?

Don't know if this is best. But I got my basic measurements for draw length. 1. Measure your arm span
2. Divide by 2.5. It's not perfect but ball park. Purchased a used Hoyt that fit my DL and started shooting. I think they're probably all good bows these days based on similar technologies. I've bought a few others over time as well to try find what I like best and still have all of them. I have reduced my DL right now because it feels more comfortable and natural.

I just don't want to tie up a ton of money I'll never get back into one. My shoulder has issues from time to time so may or may not be able to tolerate the pain.

Bows seem to be like vehicles. Brand new ones lose a lot of value when you take them home. Pick up a used one and you shouldn't stand to lose much.

You might try something like a Diamond infinite edge to start back with that is adjustable without extra $$ for cams, modules or limbs. You can adjust the draw and the weight to your liking and might even find a spot that limits that pain.
