I’m sure I’ll get drug across the coals here. But here goes. I’ve always loved 1911’s for everything that they are, and bought a sig 1911 about a year ago. It’s been so tough trying to find a decent holster for it, etc. but more than that I just really like glocks and those types of guns better. My edc is a Springfield sub compact 9mm, and I’m looking at probably a 19/23 etc style. Do I really need the big 45 anymore? Is it truly necessary? Wouldn’t I be just fine with a 19 or 23? I know it would be something I would definitely carry more often. I hardly ever carry my 1911 it sits in the safe next to the bed. Any thoughts?

The 19 is a solid pistol. I work for a sportsman retailer and many of my friends have them. I have shot the gen3 through gen5. They're extremely reliable and will eat just about any ammo you put through them. I personally bought the Canik TP9SF. I carry it all the time. As far as 9mm vs. 45. That is a question that is debated all the time. I like 9mm, but definitely wanta 45. 9 is cheaper, less recoil, and you have more capacity. The less recoil equals better follow up shots too. You wont have any problem finding a good holster for the 19 either.

You can't find a suitable holster for the most popular pistol platform? Gotta be another reason.

Well the sig 1911 isn’t like the other 1911’s. It has a square slide. Appreciate your endless knowledge though.

What type of holster do you want?

If you want Tupperware, go buy it. No sense keeping something you don't use.

There's more than a few reasons manufacturers have been trying to build a better 1911 and a better Glock since each was put on the market.

They are best in class, so pick the one you like best and carry on.

Contact East for a kydex. I wear mine and I don't even know it's there.

I am one of those guys that do not particularly care for the 1911 platform (gasp). Have shot a number of them over the years, including some high-end customs. They just don't do it for me.

Now, having said that...a Glock is pretty much the other end of the spectrum. Considerably different grip angle, completely different trigger system, and a different "feel" altogether. Some guys like it, some hate it. If you like it, go for it. I personally like Glocks, and carried a 19 for a lot of years. Ate everything I fed it, and put them where I aimed. Can't ask much more from a carry pistol that that. As far as caliber, I never felt undergunned with a 9mm. Always used premium ammo (usually Cor Bon 115 grain +P HP).

9mm is my favorite cartridge so go for it. Glock M43 is extremely easy to carry and conceal. For a kydex holster check with East, or look at the BladeTech. I have both and love em.

Don't forget if you like the 1911 platform you can go to 9mm. It's a very sweet caliber to shoot in 1911.

No real reason to carry a 45 but if recoil ain't an issue and you're just as accurate go for it.

I prefer 9mm for all my polymer carry guns. My 1911 style guns I carry are full size 45 and compact 9mm double stack.

With modern self-defense ammo, the differences between 9 and 45 are negligible at best. 9mm is cheaper so you practice more, and you double your capacity. Always a good thing if you ever have to use it, God forbid. 40 caliber? meh...

Gaston didn't give us a very pretty weapon, but he did give us a hammer of a pistol that we can always depend on. Off the shelf holsters can be found just about anywhere. I suggest a Milt Sparks SSII that can be purchased right now, on Brownell's. Or if you're into Kydex, JM custom Kydex has quick ship for Glocks. Neither are cheap, both would give you a lifetime of superior performance. And get a good belt!
