I recently bought a Block 19 Gen 4 and am wanting to put a light on it, possibly a light/laser combo. Do you guys have any recommendations on what would be good to look in to? Thanks in advance!

Streamlight TLR1 HL. 800 lumens and very rugged.

+1, makes a handy pocket sized flashlight too.

Pistol Light = Target. If the guy on the wrong end of the light has a clue, he'll be moving and shooting, while you're engaged on where he was. You be dead.

Buy a badarse compact flashlight, and learn to use it as a compliment to your handgun (with your off hand).

I disagree with above

I agree

And I agree with the recommendation above.

Partly agree fouzman, depends on whether the person can reliably control the pistol with one hand, which many cannot. In one’s own home a light may not be needed at all and the occupant should have the advantage in darkness.

The other concern is interlimb reflex, also referred to as sympathetic grip, causing an unintended discharge, which is a concern even with high levels of training.

For use in the home, if a light is needed, a headlamp is another handy option, but keep the TLR1 handy as a compact light if that is a better option in the situation. With the headlamp, both hands are free and it is pointing where the person is looking, which allows the option to use a shotgun. But, darkness is the first choice.

jb, proficiency was a given in my reply. Completely agree with no light in known spaces, too. Advantage shooter, at all times, when possible.

Said this before and will say it once more. Should you choose to use a handgun for self-defense, PLEASE! Enlist the services of an accomplished teacher. Emphasis on firearms. Three one-on-ones (1-1.5 hrs each) should get you comfy w/your gun.

With the Streamlight TLR1 HL you may not not have to fire the gun. I just had to point the thing at a mirror to see.......cyclo

We can imagine all sorts of situations. I think the best "lighting" is both night sights and that pupil frying Streamlight. That way you can choose to be hidden with usable night sights, or light up the world with Streamlight.

If you really have the upper hand in the situation you could hit strobe and tell the bad guy dance---disco. grin

It is very bright, blinding of you just hit the momentary or strobe.

I have a Surefire X250 and X300 light. The light allows for push button on and off with both hands on the pistol. I want 2 hands for the pistol, and I want on and off for the light and I get this with a weapon mounted light. IMO, I think this is the best way for overall use of a light.

Also, when the light gets brighter, there's 2 problems.
1- It gets harder for you to see also going from dark to bright light. I have played with the newer and brighter lights, and I don't like them as much as the 300 lumen lights. 250-300 is plenty.
2- If/when you fire your weapon in the dark, the gun smoke causes a white out, like driving in a fog with your brights on. The brighter the light, the more white out you get. We have shot in shooting houses and the softer lights are much easier to see after you shoot. The lights that were the high power one's, you were blinded from the white smoke, and ruining your vision also. You simply can't see past the smoke.

It’s best to have a handheld flashlight and a weapon light on your gun. You don’t have to use them, but it gives you more options.

I am a fan of the weapon mounted light. Most two hand methods have you holding the light just a few inches from your weapon - So what's the point? It does not make you any less of a target. Unless you are VERY proficient at one hand shooting in the dark, I think it just adds complexity to a stressful situation.

I somehow can't understand how a bright @$$ light mounted on the front of your pistol makes you any more of a target. Have you ever had a spotlight shined in your eyes? It makes it mighty hard to concentrate, much less see where exactly the light is coming from.

We aren't talking about kerosene lanterns here.

I've been to several training classes, talked to LEO, spoken to security contractors, and guess what, they keep a light mounted on their pistol. The 1980's version of a flash light in one hand and pistol in the other is very old school.

I come from the school of thought that you cant hit what you cant see. I keep a light on my pistol for that reason.

Its got to be true, I watch Live PD and they have lights on their guns and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

If the light is QD and you feel the need to use the old school tactics, it can be quickly detached and used in your off hand.

If you want to have the light on the pistol to free up your off hand for other tasks, you can't do that with the old school lights.

I like having options, and I like the lower lumen lights for the reasons stated above, too much light can be bad for your own vision.

I've shot a number of low light and no light scenarios (with dressed shoot/no-shoot targets), and I much prefer a weapon mounted light with both a momentary and constant on switch. The momentary is good for flash and move techniques.

Purely personal preference.

My "house gun": an old Glock 34 and Insight M3... both still going strong after 15+ years.

Have a TLR1 on the xd. Why would I want to occupy one hand with a handheld flashlight? How does that make less of a target? Gonna hold it in an outstretched arm to the side or overhead? And saying that using the dark as an advantage doesn't totally fly with me. I want a positive ID of my target before I put lead in it/them. I can see the scenario of not turning on the light until you have the target/shadowy figure in view but to put bullets in the direction of, or in, a target in the dark you can't say for sure isn't your 18 yr old son that snuck out of the house, is crazy. Besides that, if someone is creeping around the house in the dark and suddenly gets 200 lumens in the face, it's going to blind that person for a moment. Natural reaction is to cover the eyes, squint or look away.

Since most of you will never be clearing rooms or having shootouts with excessive gun Smoke indoors get a top 3 brand , bright high lumen light.

From real life experience and staring at many lights On the end of guns as they come into a room (and I know they are coming in the room and what to expect) I cannot function against some of the new high lumen gun mounted lights. Some of the older lights I was still able to function and retaliate vs the offense.

How you going to see the target using only night sights? popcorn

I’m a firm believer in a weapon mounted light and light discipline. I use a TLR-1 HL on both my pistol and rifl,. couldn’t imagine working nights without them.

Exactly. If you think you will be able to fully function with 600+ lumens of bright white light pointed in your face, well, you must be a better operator than me.
