Bought my childhood dream gun two years ago. 184 series Ruger Mini-14 factory folder. I've only taken it to the range 3 or 4 times, pleasure to shoot and accurate enough despite what I'm told. If I put a can on it, I know I would use the thing all the time. It's an awesome ride along gun when doing chores at the ranch. On the other hand, factory folders fetch a pretty penny and if I ever get rid of it, it might devalue the rifle. What to do?
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Good question, but hard to answer.
If you really like it, shorten the barrel to 16.25" and thread it. The real collector value is more in the stock than the rest. You could always buy a standard take off stock and sell the folder separately.

Set your rifles up to suit you, not the next guy that MIGHT get it.

Buy a non-folder, get a folding stock for it (if you need that piece) and thread that one. Use it for your beat-up/ride-along needs and put this one in the safe (or sell it).

Mini's don't suppress quit as well for some reason, might keep it original and put can on another 223.

Ruger sells one with a folder already threaded. I wouldn't butcher that one is a collectable.
One shot is all it should take.

its great if you got one that shoots even half way decent, the first one I bought, I couldn't get 6 shots inside a dinner plate, sold it, bought another, wasn't any better. like above post, the value is in the stock, if that's going to be your one & only, do what YOU LIKE
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

Buy a second one. Keep one pristine and thread the other. Win-Win.
