Tons of conflicting info on these. Dad has an Arminius revolver that is chambered for 32 long. Will it be fine to shoot 32 S&W in it? A guy at the gun show at a booth selling ammo told me that they're the same thing.

Both the 32 Long and the 32 S&W Long are the same. In your title, it says 32 S&W and 32 Long, which these would NOT be the same. If the pistol is chambered in 32 S&W "Long", then often times people will call it the 32 Long. The 32 S&W (not Long) is a round that is shorter and has less pressure than the 32 S&W Long. I'd have to look it up to be certain, but I'm pretty sure 32 S&W can be fired in a 32 S&W Long, just like the 38 Special is to the 357 Mag.

Quick search on this: Since the .32 S&W headspaces on the rim and shares the rim dimensions and case and bullet diameters of the longer .32 S&W Long, the .32 H&R Magnum cartridges, and the .327 Federal Magnum, .32 S&W cartridges may be fired in arms chambered for these longer cartridges.

The box says 32 S&W. Is that the same as long or short?

There is the 32 S&W then the 32 S&W Long which is what it sounds like a longer version of the 32 S&W. If the gun is marked 32 S&W it is not intended for the 32 S&W long but the shorter round. If the gun is marked 32S&W long then you can use either of the 32 S&W cartridges in it.

Much like a 38 Special is not intended for 357 Mag, but you can shoot 38 specials in a 357.

That would be the shorter version, which is not the Long. You have a 32 S&W, which was from like the 1880's or 1890's era.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The box of ammo says 32 S&W. The gun says 32 S&W long. Sounds like the gun can shoot 32 S&W, 32 S&W short, or 32 S&W long, which is good news.
