I've had great experiences with several different Caldwell bipods. If you shoot daily, and plan to put alot of pressure on the bipod, you might need better. But if you are an occasional shooter, or are using it for hunting, I promise, the Caldwell is all you need.

Harris aren't inexpensive. Not everybody has a budget to spend $100+ on a bipod, when experience tells me, a Caldwell will do just as well for light duty. And considering he asked for "decent" I'm assuming light duty is what it's going to be.

I tend to focus on the buy once, cry once version of inexpensive, and have been extremely happy with my Atlas bipod. Would definitely buy again!

Just make sure to avoid the Chinese stuff, I've seen them break.

Kind regards, charlesb

Caldwell is cheep junk, weak springs, and poorly assembled. There is no comparison to a Harris. Atlas bipods are as good as they come but for hunting Harris is king. It doesn't matter if you shoot a lot or just a bit, if you opt for crap equipment you'll be kicking yourself for not throwing down for a better bipod

I've got one of these and it works great. I did add a American Defense QD(which cost more than the bipod) the QD mount comes in really handy!

Caldwell isn't cheap junk, and I've never had a weak spring. In fact, they are usually so strong you have to be careful closing them or you're liable to get a finger pinched they close so fast. I've owned 3 of them, and have always been very pleased with them.

The stuff you can get on Amazon for $9 is cheap junk. Stay away from those on a centerfire rifle. (I have one on a .22 that seems to do okay).

Nobody around here ever sticks to the budget that an OP offers. It's always "save a little more" or "buy once cry once". Even saving up, some people just don't have the funds to justify spending $100+ on a bipod. Or $600+ on a scope.

I used a Caldwell on my rifle for 3 stages at the hunters challenge before it failed. Thankfully Chad had an extra he let me borrow for the rest of the match or I would have been screwed. Caldwell does make a tight fitting bipod but one of the main screws came out on mine and I now have a harris. 2cents

Silly Rabbit, the OP doesn't mention anything about price; $80-90 for a Harris BP is much less expensive than an $220 Atlas, how about MPODs for 250, or the Allied Precision bipod at 289..... I can keep going and the price can keep climbing......

I'd prefer $50 or less. It's going on a single shot H&R Ultra Varmint 22-250
