GO!

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Does a wheat field count? 1 mile by 1 mile.

Accuracy International 308 Win.

Longest shot was 470, dropped where it stood with a 175 SMK.

Pick one, it doesn't matter. Cook a barrel on one of them practicing, and hunting, put a new barrel on it, then take any one of them to the "beanfield".

I hunted bean fields for 50 years and used a 270 for the last 40 years of that. If I was going back to that part of the country, I'd park my beloved 260 and dust off my trusty old Sako 270. It's just a bigger hammer.

If I had to add a rifle, I think I'd lean toward the 6.5-284 or the 6.5 Rem Mag. Both of them are equal to the 270, and you could give them extra points for a better BC, but inside 400 yards BC difference between .277 and .264 doesn't mean much.

Hard to beat the 270 for the bean field, though my hard headed cousin thinks his 6.5-280 (yes, you read that right) is better. I tell him it's a 6.5-06 but he says he necked down his 280 brass, so by God it's a 6.5-280.

Growing up in Kentucky "bean field" meant we were crossing the river to hunt Ohio. And "rifle" meant 12 gauge slugs.

Two years ago the Ohio DNR got all generous and started allowing limited straight-walled rifle & pistol calibers...better know your range estimations & dope charts well when a 45-90 is considered the "hot" rifle in camp.

6mm, 6.5mm or 7mm. Various flavors of each and they all work well.

"Best bean field rifle" says title...didn't ask for caliber...

Setup with a Sako TRG42 and go from there...

Just like the car or truck you drive, use what you like. Rifle needs to put the bullet where it goes every time it makes a cold bore shot.

Easy....Take a Sako action, screw a Bartlein 2B on it, chamber it in 7STW, put a Nightforce F1 on top, load up some 160 AB's, and rock on. Over and done
