Just inherited a Remington 1100 12ga from my father who passed. The barrel is 28" and is full choke. Any have or know of a good place to pick up a modified barrel?

Condolences on the loss of your father.

Any good gunsmith can turn your full barrel into a modified. I did that with a full fixed choke Auto 5 that I enherited. It was not that expensive to have the choke opened up.

If you are getting a new barrel why not get one that has screw-in chokes. Remington is having a sale on barrels right now I believe.

Try it with a full before you blow any cash. It's possible it's a loose full or you might be able to do well with it. If your bird hunting with it a full is great for those long shots. I run a I/M over a Full on my citori. On the skeet field I do well with either.

As far as if you decide to go with a new barrel look over eBay. I sell em on there now and then and have bought them off there a few times. Sometimes you can get a good deal but it's possible to get burnt. I have a full Rib 1100 16 gauge barrel that has a dicked up ring and will not work that came off there.

If you look hard enough at Cabelas they normally have an 870 and 1100 barrel running around on one of the isles. Going that route will give you a barrel with choke tubes.

Hello JBear, give this guy a shot. He does great work and is very reasonable. Yes he has done several barrels for me for a fraction of what a new barrel would cost. He can cut, thread, for screw in chokes or open from full to mod on your barrel.
