Well, I bought one.....of course Buzz can't leave anything normal. I'm looking for a LOCAL gunsmith who knows these rifles well enough to install an after market trigger. I don't want to send my gun to EA Brown, want to take it to them I haven't called any of the regular guys yet, thought someone here might get me started. I pick the rifle up next week and will get some pic's up. Always have loved the Ruger #1, always wanted one, so damn, I got one no more room in the safe, so I may have a rifle for sale in a day or two, cant decide which one. I love them all.

I might be able to help out. Might as well get the bigger safety too.

If your going to hunt with it leave it stock. Ruger triggers are not my favorites and I usually swap them out but they can be adjusted to a comfortable level. The #1 is a different story, they never were very accurate but a little fine tuning made them acceptable for most situations.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Hate to say it But I agree with HWY_Man. The #1 is not very accurate. I had to glass bed the forearm on my 223 Bull barrel #1. Now I shoot flies at 100 yards for fun.

yep, it may take some work. Kinda why I got it. I pick it up Wednesday, I'll measure the throat, mount the scope, load some rounds starting with 42.4 H4350 which is my load in my bolt gun, 3 different 140gr bullets. I'll break the barrel in with factory stuff. if it just sux terrible, I will have it tuned up. I hate shipping rifles, drive all the way to the UPS "HUB" harry Hines and Walnut Hill yuck. I have two Long-range rifles which will shoot .5 MOA, 6.5 Weatherby and 6.5 Creedmoor, so if the Ruger will shoot 1 moa, I will be happy.....maybe.... Like I say, it's a Ruger #1, 6.5 Creedmoor, very nice wood and I have always loved and wanted one So here we go

have had several, some would shoot, most would not, a 22-250 stainless would drive tacks, when found 1's, that were prior 1972 build had the best accuracy.

picked the rifle up today. It "looks" really nice. If it shoots, will be another thing. This project could go into hunting season, if it shoots badly.
I'll post up some pics and range reports as they progress

I'll post up some pics and range reports as they progress With a decent scope you should stay under an inch and half at 100 easy. Play with the trigger a little and it will tighten up some, it will definitely be a hunter. When I was messing with the #1's I was also shooting Remington's that were capable of sub 1/4 inch groups at 100 so it's really not fair for me to be real critical of the #1's. Let me also add that they have a feel of their own just like the old tang safety 77's, they just have that classic "Meat and Potato's" feel. Let me also cautions you that a #1 addictions can happen quicker than you could ever imagine, I do like those rifles.

I have two #1V's and they both are tack drivers. Guess I got lucky.

trigger breaks at 5.5lbs. unacceptable...I'll never shoot a decent group with it. I'll jerk it off for sure
