.465" 5-shot group at 100 yards with a Savage .308 bolt action; using out-of-the-box Federal ammunition. Shot off of a front bipod and a small carpet covered 4x4 block in the rear. This rifle has been really good to me. I had another target going that was looking even better till I goofed the fourth shot.

Nice! I have one of those waiting to go on my own .308 (Win M70). Congrats on the group!

I've got a Savage 308 bolt action (model 11VT) that will shoot half inch groups as well. I've only ever tried Federal Gold Medal 168 gr SMK, and the rifle seems to love it. I just switched scopes from an SWFA SS 16x42 to an SWFA SS 3-15x42. I've been very impressed with the setup. Glad you're liking the Vortex/Savage combo. What model Savage rifle did you get? Is it all factory?

Its a Savage model 10FCP...all factory, but has 5R rifling (from the factory). I've mostly shot 168s from Federal through it but recently tried 175s. The 175s shot well for a couple trips; but on this last range trip I opened a box, after shooting the 168s, and those 175s were kicking me noticeably harder and not grouping as well. Probably just fatigue on my part. Either way, 168gr SMKs seem to be a sweet spot for these rifles. Also should note that I use Hornady ammo for hunting and those seem to group really well too.

Savage Model 10T running the same Viper PST scope with very similar results. Great shooting on your part. It is a very good combination of gun/optic/caliber.

I don't doubt that custom/semi custom guns are more consistent, but this is what has kept me from getting one. When I shoot frequently... which hasn't happened in a few years now thanks to life, I can produce similar groups with a Rem 700 adl 223 and a rem Sendero 270 win, with handloads.

My problem is I haven't been to shoot for practice in more than 3 yeas. I take a shot to verify that the rifle is still on with the same box of 20 handloads I was on last year and head to the deer stand crying I miss shooting

Love my Savage 10T. Same optic to except I'm MOA banana

It too loves the 168SMK's with the 5R barrel. I can't justify a full custom rifle when this one will shoot better than I do most days. Produced a few 300 yard 1 hole groups, that's about the best I can do. I've also had this 8 inch groups at 300 yards bang

I'd love to stretch mine out farther but this city dweller has few options. There is a range close to me that has a 200 yard firing line but they've recently made changes that I don't like.

I've got a 10T with the Viper HS-T on it and I'm getting similar results using Hornady 168 BTHP Match ammo. As soon as I use up all of the factory stuff, I'm switching to 168 Amax in my handloads.

Buddy of mine just got a 10T in 6.5 and topped it with a Gen II Razor. If he doesn't put 5 in the same ragged hole he gets mad. Next time Cabelas runs a sale on their 10T's I'm snagging one in 6.5.

Sorry to hear that. I guess like any other mass produced item (car, trucks, TVs, etc...) there will be some that are keepers and some that are not.

The savage shoots ok, but at this point the others easily outdo it. Im still working on load development for it... life has thrown a wrench in my shooting.
