Not if you want to take more than 1 shot. I had one once and the drift between the 1st and 2nd shot was about 4" LOL
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

Not a fan. Others on this board have had better luck than I have. If yours shoots reliably and will consistently hit a 2" target at 50 yards, then go for it. I'd never buy one specifically for hog hunting, though. If you're a Remington fan, the pump has a much better rep for accuracy and reliability.

I have used them and with good success. A little work and they can group better.

I use a 742 in 30.06 for hogs and deer. I've complained about its accuracy before, and wouldn't own it at all except it was my Dad's. That said, accuracy has improved noticeably since I put a Leopold VX-2 on it. I shot three deer with it this year and all were DRT.

Not dedicated to hogs, but I did carry a 742 in .308 for about 20 deer seasons. Wasn't and isn't a 1" rifle, but certainly enough for deer or hogs. I never lost a deer with, have never had one malfunction, and would carry it again tomorrow in a heartbeat. I'd still be using it if I hadn't gotten bored with it. I have heard all the stories and only have first-hand experience with the one.

Your dad would be proud of you if you trade it in on a better rifle. I was in the same position only I had 2 different rifles from pops and neither would group for shirt. Traded them off even for a Armalite AR10 T in a .308. Now I have a gun that polks one hole groups at 100 yards. Old dad would be proud.

Your dad would be proud of you if you trade it in on a better rifle. It's been to the gunsmith for the FTL/FTE issues chronic to these rifles, and what I'll probably have to do eventually is have it converted into a straight-pull or pump action. But as of yesterday, it was working perfectly.

I have a 7400 in a 30.06 that is very accurate. Only one I have seen that was lol. I also have a 750 in a 35 Whelen that is very good on pigs. It's for sale to by the way lol.
