For those of us in the "budget" rifle class, I am noticing places such as Gander Mountain offering the Rem 783 for $229 after a $40 Rem rebate.

Just wondering if anyone knows what is driving the price down...maybe sales are just that slow.

I have not seen any major issues or recalls.
Obviously the quality is not up to par w/ a 700, but what do you expect for less than $300.

I picked one up earlier this year for $299, which was a "hot deal" at Academy at the time.
Admittedly it did have to return back to Rem right out of the box as one of the mounting holes was not threaded completely. It is sub-MOA capable and hangs right there with a TikkaT3.

Any rifle that shoots reasonably well is worth $229.

I have a Savage Axis - I am very impressed with it. It was $299 and I thought that was a bargain.

It is amazing the accuracy these "cheap" rifles are getting. Not sure why the low cost, especially for Gander MTN. maybe a remodel?

You're telling me...Rem 783 in 30-06 shooting Hornady American Whitetail 150gr. off sand bags.
Less than $300 gun and a $20 box of ammo.

And for the Gander 2-day sale, it is online only and they charge $25 for shipping firearms, but maybe that will be waived if they already have it in-store for pickup.
