What other calibers would share the same bolt in a Rem 700 SA?

Anything that shares a .473" bolt face. The list is long.

Isn't the 6x47 built on the 223 case?

Don't forget 358 Winchester.

Pretty sure no on the 6 x 47. Case head is for the .473" bolt face, same as the the 6.5 x 47 Lapua.

I didn't forget the .358, I left it out of my list. smile

I was thinking of the 6x47 listed in the Speer manual. It's based upon the 222 Magnum, not the .223 case as I thought. It has the same .378 base diameter though. Developed for the AR15/M16 as a military round with more grunt than the .223... The 6.8spc eclipsed it in popularity though. Now it's mainly varminters that still fool with it.

The .358 Win is a great cartridge, most versatile in the 308 case family with a great selection of bullets up to 250 grains. - A reasonable cartridge for the big bears, it can be loaded down with pistol bullets for smaller critters, or with bullets designed for the 35 Remington to make a nice whitetail/pig gun. Like most hunters though, it's not much good out past 250-300 yards.

They're all based on the .222 Magnum.

The 222 magnum is in turn based upon the 222 Remington. All .378" base diameter cases derive from the 222 Rem, as this was the original cartridge that the new case was designed for.

Getting back on topic; A switch-barrel rifle on a short action can be a lot of fun. For mine, I had barrels in .243 and 7mm-08... Next was going to be a 338 Federal barrel, but somebody talked me out of the rife, a model 16 Savage that I had tweaked a bit.

FiremanJG means the 6x47 Lapua a necked down version of the 6.5x47 Lapua. A much different case than the old 6x47 or 6x222mag.

Can't forget the .300 Savage.

I figured it was best before some real confusion set in.
