Just wanted to share my experience with the new Beretta A400 Xplor 20 I bought last fall. I really like the handling and it is very light weight. A great gun for the walking hunter in that respect. But the gun will not cycle anything less than one ounce loads. I am really surprised by this as I thought Beretta was known for functional reliability. I have an old Model 58 Sportsman 20 that will cycle 3/4 or 7/8 ounce loads perfectly if I clean it about every fifth box I run through it. Beretta claims the A400 will cycle all loads but mine will not. I hate it when Gun manufacturers make claims their products do not live up to.

Mine cycles what ever I put through it. Call Beretta while it's under warranty

Ya you need to call Beretta and send it in or check your gas holes for blockage because you have the only A400 that not reliable. Hell my 12g A400 will cycle the reduced recoil 7/8oz loads that aren't made for semiautos, then I can put a 3.5" hard hitting turkey load right behind it with no problems.

How many rounds through the A400? The reviews Ive seen are very positive. I love my Urika 2 391 20 gauge. I have shot it 200-250 times. Beretta told me to send it back. I asked if they would guarantee it would cycle 7/8 oz. loads when I got it back if I did and they would not so I am not sending it back. I like the gun except for that issue and as long as it will function reliably with one ounce loads I'll keep it. I have three other 20's that will handle the light stuff so it is not a big deal to me. Just wanted people to beware, they are not all perfect. It is so odd that my old Sportsman 58 hung up on me a couple times last year so I decided to retire it after many years of good service and get the A400 because it was so light and never gave reliability a thought because of all the great reviews and lo and behold the A400 has hung up more in one season than the old Remington has in its long life. May be odd but it is the truth.

May be odd but it is the truth. I would send it back anyways there is something definitely wrong with it. Me and my family are Beretta fanatics and have owned 5 A400's that all have functioned flawlessly. A 20gauge should defiantly function 7/8oz loads. All my 20gauges and 12 gauges will. I'll post a video next time I get to the range showing my 12gauge functioning the 7/8oz lite recoil loads that specifically say will not function semi autos. Did you check the two gas holes? What about the plastic band that goes around the gas system insert?

First thing I did was check the gas ports and found there was only one port. Called Beretta about it and was told the A400 Xplor 20 gauge has only one port. As for a "plastic band" that goes around the gas system insert, have not seen anything like that nor can I find mention of it in the manual. Maybe the Xplor version is different to your gun? But thanks for the help anyway.
