Barrel? Im building a 7.62x39 ar15 and cant decide what length to go with. It will be a range gun that might get a shot at a deer every once in a while. Longest shot will be 150 yards max. Is the extra money worth the longer barrel? I know this wont be a full on tac driver but i want it as accurate as possable to put a deer down.

123 grain projectile goes
2400 from 20"
2350 from 16"
2250 from 12.5"
2100 from 10.5"
2000 from 9"

16" unless you have an SBR, then 12.5". I've totally switched over to SBR's whenever possible so I am biased towards the shorter barrels for maneuverability and to save weight.

tack driver is a relative term for 7.62x39 because of ammo. Mine is an SBR'd M92 PAP (10" barrel) and does everything it needs to @ 100yds. for 10" less of barrel and lose only 400fps, i'll take that all day.
if you don't want to SBR then go 16"...

Short barreled rifle. Requires paperwork with the ATF and a relatively Long wait to be approved before you can legally possess it.
