So I sent my new 7mm08 project barrel out to be put on a diet. Went from 26" to 22" and 6 pounds to 3 pounds 5 ounces and spiral fluted it. Can't wait till it hits the action and new chassis. Thanks to Kampfeld Custom for doing the machining.

Spiral fluting can cut the weight in half??? I might need to do that.

Can a cerakoted barrel be spiral fluted?

He also cut off 4" of barrel.

I like it. I like it a lot. What action is it going on?

Remember I started with a heavy varmint contour barrel. Spiral fluting is very deep and they did cut barrel from 26 to 22 inches.
As fas as the ceracoated barrel, give them a call and find out.

Nice I didn't realize cutting off that much and fluting would drop the weight so much very cool.

That looks great, I really want to do that with several of my rifles....Couple questions:

Any idea how much weight is saved from cutting the 4" of barrel vs. the fluting?
Why not have the fluting go to the end of the barrel?
Cost?

Thank you in advance!

The barrel weighed 6 pounds before it left, 26" long which equals 96 ounces or 3.69 ounces per inch. Cut off 4 inches which totals 14.76 ounces deducted for the barrel decrease in length. The actual length of the flutes is 15.75 so the weight deduction for flutes is 1.79 ounces per inch of fluting. This is all based on the contour of my specific barrel. I requested the flutes stop there before the end in case I decided to thread the barrel in the future.

$200 to have it done.

Thank you very much. That doesn't seem like a bad price. I would have never guessed that fluting would save 50% as much weight per inch as cutting it off.

Looks awesome!

It looks good for a SAVAGE peep

JK nothing wrong with a Savage and a lot right about them

Anyone else think the barrels with that flute pattern look a lot like a candy cane? If I ever do a pure target rifle with that pattern I might have to finish it white with red flutes. You will know I have won the Lottery if you see me posting pictures of one in that coloration

Flutes are for toting, red and white flutes are for showing off. Need a blue stock to go with it.
