A barrelled action to someone to have it cut down/threaded? If yes, I'd assume they can ship directly back to me?

Texas to Texas, no you do not need an FFL.

I shipped a broken down shotgun with FedEx last year no problem. They actually gave me a discount because it was an "online" purchase.

This is not a good idea, particularly across state lines. If the receiver has a FFL, then you're good. You can also send a firearm to yourself in another state, but you must be the person who opens the box. I urge you to do the right thing and follow the law.

Very good way to lose a gun, get a big fine, and take a vacay in Federal prison, but YMMV if you're lucky...

Intrastate shipping requires no FFL, as stated above.

Just for clarification, I thought I understood that you can send a firearm interstate if its to the original manufacturer. Is that correct?

It is always legal to send a firearm to the manufacturer. By virtue of the manufacturing license they are also ffl holders.

From my understanding, you can ship a firearms out of state to an FFL and they can ship it directly back to you at the address in which it was shipped from. The person receiving it has to be an FFL if they are out of the state.
