On a whim I ordered me a Ruger M77/44 all weather bolt action carbine, 18.5" barrel. I carry a Blackhawk .44 mag all the time so wanted a rifle to complement it. Just wondering what ammo you guys that shoot a .44mag carbine use, it has the Ruger rotary magazine and I hear some ammo like the longer Hornady leverevolution wont work. I usually load my revolver with Buffalo Bore 300 grain LFN. I got lots of hogs in creek bottoms and around small tanks so I figured this little carbine would be just right. I know people up North carry .44 mag pistols for bear, so figured they would do a good number on hogs too.

I run 240 XTP in my 44's. I've leveled pigs, turkey and deer with it. I use it out of my Marlin lever rifle with 16.5" barrel. I like the 240 XTP.

I use XTP a lot as well in both 240 and 300 grain. One bullet to stay away from is the Winchester Silvertip, very soft bullet that does not penetrate well. Pretty much every other bullet 220 grains I have tried in the magnum has worked. Deepest penetrating jacketed bullet no doubt is the discontinued partition, close to that the Swift A-Frame but those are expensive bullets.
No experience with the Leverevolution from a Ruger mag, except it does feed well through the old Ruger Semiauto, Remington 788, Winchester 94 and Marlin 1894. The bullet sticks out of the brass further but Hornady shortens the brass to keep COAL in spec for use in all firearms.

Yes, Hornady 240 XTP. Let me know if you need any ammo. I have this in stock. 240 XTP in Winchester brass with a stiff load of powder. It's the same stuff I shoot and sell.

Yes, Hornady XTP. Like Chad I load my own and load them on the stiff side, right at max loads of H110.

Just a guess, been loading the 44mag for over 25 years with 240gr bullets and H110. Other powders will work but have found none better for the 44mag.

I load 18.5 gr of 2400 behind Leadhead 250gr flatbased Keith bullets. Didn't see a hog all year but shot a nice 8pt with my Marlin. Good accuracy. Will shoot clean through anything in Texas.OAL is a little long so I had to have rifle modified a bit to get them to feed.I bet they'd cycle fine in your Ruger.
Read Ashley Emerson's "Make mine a 44" if you haven't. Good read on virtues of hardcast bullets.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

265 gr with a healthy helping of H110/W296 is popular where I'm from.
Pass the gravy.

I shoot XTP in my revolver. With what you are using in your pistol use the same in rifle. You won't be getting anything mixed up. Buffalo Bore is good stuff
